Global Employee Health and Fitness Month 2022

Wellness Program mistakes are often small and overlooked, but a quick change can make all the difference and ensure your organization reaps all the benefits

Global Employee Health and Fitness Month

May is Global Employee Health and Fitness Month (GEHFM)! GEHFM is an international observance of health and fitness in the workplace and it is promoted by The National Association for Health and Fitness (NAHF). The overall goal of this observance is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to both employers and their employees through worksite health promotion activities and environments. For 2022, GEHFM is even better than ever! As stated by Diane H. Hart, President and Executive Director of the National Association for Health and Fitness, businesses and the industry as a whole can encourage positive behavior change in the supportive context of workplace policies and culture, and provide support that assists today’s workforce with their daily struggles.

How to Get Involved in GEHFM

If you don’t already have a wellness program or wellness strategies in place, the perfect first step is to get involved with and celebrate GEHFM! If you do have a wellness program, use this month to educate employees on the benefits of participation and highlight all your offerings! Below are additional ways to get involved in GEHFM:

  1. Show your support for a healthy, active workplace by signing up for GEHFM! You’ll be joining the 6000+ companies and organizations currently participating in GEHFM and you’ll also receive access to their toolkits.
  2. Get your employees moving! Host competitions or create fitness challenges for employees to participate in. One idea is offer wellness points for exercise. The more employees exercise, the more wellness points they can accumulate which can be redeemed for prizes and rewards offered by your organization. It could be walking, running, biking, or any type of exercise as long as it gets them moving!
  3. Be social! Share your individual and organizational progress on social media and use your social platforms as a tool for encouraging your employees to stay active.
