Global Employee Health and Fitness Month
May is Global Employee Health and Fitness Month (GEHFM)! GEHFM is an international observance of health and fitness in the workplace and it is promoted by The National Association for Health and Fitness (NAHF). The overall goal of this observance is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to both employers and their employees through worksite health promotion activities and environments.
The National Association for Health and Fitness
The National Association for Health and Fitness (NAHF) was founded in 1979 by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. NAHF’s mission is to improve the quality of life for all individuals by promoting physical fitness, sports and healthy lifestyles. They also champion environmental and policy support for active living, community involvement, promoting quality physical education; developing workforce health promotion programs and active-aging programs. Their award-winning worksite health promotion program, Global Employee Health and Fitness Month, has resulted in thousands of employees leading healthier lives!
How to Get Involved in GEHFM
- Show your support for a healthy, active workplace by signing up for GEHFM! You’ll be joining the 6000+ companies and organizations currently participating in GEHFM and you’ll also receive access to their toolkits.
- Get your employees moving! Host competitions or create fitness challenges for employees to participate in. One idea is offer wellness points for exercise. The more employees exercise, the more wellness points they can accumulate which can be redeemed for prizes and rewards offered by your organization. It could be walking, running, biking, or any type of exercise as long as it gets them moving!
- Be social! Share your individual and organizational progress on social media and use your social platforms as a tool for encouraging your employees to stay active.
