What is a Resilient Leader?

A resilient leader is a person who can recover quickly from difficult conditions and they see failure as just a temporary setback. They maintain their positive attitude and optimistic outlook no matter what struggles they are facing and they always find a way to move forward. Research has proven that resilience is an important trait for individuals, especially when they are in a leadership role.

The Importance of Resilient Leaders

1. They Set The Right Example: Leaders play a huge role in influencing your organization and its employees, and resilient leaders do this in a positive way. They set a good example by staying positive and finding ways to get the job done. They also put an emphasis on work-life balance and healthy stress relieving techniques. 2. Be Coachable: No one is perfect and everyone has room to grow. Resilient leaders are aware of this and they ask for feedback throughout their careers in order to always keep improving their skills.
3. Build Positive/Trusting Relationships: Working to build positive relationships where others feel they can trust you is is a huge part of resilient leadership.
4. Be a Risk Takers: Taking bold risks and being open to new ideas is what keeps an organization thriving even during times of drastic change.
5. Be Decisive: Projects cannot move forward until decisions are made. Part of being a resilient leader is being able to make decisions even under pressure.
6. Develop Others: The best way to do this is to teach resiliency and give productive feedback and coaching to others so they can grow and move past their mistakes. This will help the organization become more resilient overall.
7. Champion Change: Embracing change takes courage and requires a positive vision of where the organization wants to go. Resilient leaders are willing to change, encourage other to embrace change, and they are able to provide the strong leadership required to help the organization change.
