of efforts to enhance awareness, change
behavior and create environments that
support good health practices. Of the
three, supportive environments will
probably have the greatest impact in
producing lasting change.

| WHY WORKSITE WELLNESS |
Worksite Wellness, includes activities that a company
or organization provides its employees to improve the
health and well-being of their workforce.
The programs or activities usually promote:
Awareness education - providing understanding about
health risks, like
high cholesterol, blood pressure and stress.
Behavior and lifestyle change - encouraging healthy behaviors,
like exercise and proper nutrition, and discouraging such
issues as smoking, and alcohol abuse.
Supportive environments - creating a workplace environment that
helps employees maintain and enhance healthy food choices,
stress management, proper office ergonomics and flexible
work schedules.



Companies are interested in keeping their workers healthier and happier for a variety of reasons.
A recent survey from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and the National Business Group on Health

(2007) found the leading reasons, for employers promoting wellness, to be as follows:

• Reducing indirect costs - absenteeism, presenteeism, disability, and workers' compensation
• Improving work performance - productivity and quality
• Reducing direct health care costs

• Improving image of the company internally - for retention purposes
• Improving image of the company externally - for recruitment purposes

This survey was given to multinational employers, representing more than
3 million employees worldwide.
