I met Kay Rice in 2008. She was my Wellness Coach in the Wellness Program offered by my employer. At that time I was so depressed, unhappy and frustrated with my weight that I cried during the coaching session. I was so frustrated with my lack of results from my dieting efforts. Something happened during that coaching session. She asked me to stop and listen to myself. I was looking for a “get fit quick fix” and it was going to take some time, but as soon as I got on the right path I would start to feel better. She told me that I am the one who is accountable for my choices and my results and that I have the power to make those choices and to change. It was a life changing moment and I made a decision to take control of my health right then.
We talked about how to implement an exercise and nutrition plan and set some goals. Immediately after I met with her, at the next lunch break, I shared with my friend my decision to make these changes in my life. My friend decided to join me on my journey. I still carry a photo of myself from that time when I weighed 230 pounds. It serves as a reminder of where I started on my journey.
I have lost over 100lbs and now wear size 6 jeans, down from size 20. I eat high quality foods that I enjoy, go to the gym 4-5 times a week. In 2008, I could not do a single push up. Now can do 25 men’s push-ups, and in fact did push-ups with my grandson on my back. I also take my grandson out for hikes in the woods; something I never could have done at 230lbs. Now I feel vibrant; I am happy, and I never get sick. My work out partner has experienced similar results … having lost 90lbs and 10 inches in waist size. I’m now someone at our company that other employees look up to and ask me how I did it! Thank you, Kay!
